Missed Hunting Tips...
Hunting the High Fence

Hunting the High Fence
By Uncle Bob.

I have been doing my radio show for seven years and have been introduced to many cool things. One of which is hunting on a game ranch. I was introduced to this style of hunting by my friends Mike Wills, president of Safari Club International Southeast Michigan Bow hunters Chapter, and Doug Miller owner of Thunder Hills Ranch in Concord Michigan. These guys have hunted all over the world with bows, muzzleloaders, and guns of various types and styles, and much of the time under conditions that you and I would avoid at all times.
Did you know that much of the hunting done around the world is done on game preserves and private land? All the hunting done in Texas is done on private ranches, and most of the hunts offered outside Michigan are done with guides? (You can also hunt with guides in Michigan). Most hunts around the world are done with the use of bait as well.
Why bring this up? Because there are a small group of outdoor journalists in this state, radio hosts, TV hosts and outdoor writers who oppose hunting on game ranches or preserves because they feel it's not sporting. Yet ALL of them have used guides and have hunted over or used bait in some form or fashion. And anyone of them who denies it is a big fat, well, you know what! Hunting on ranches/preserves is no different than hunting anywhere else! Fact. Most of these people have never even hunted a ranch/preserve! Yet, they rail against it and believe that you should do as they say. They feel that if you don't do as they do, hold the same opinion as they do. . .you're an idiot! A knuckle-dragging moron. . . a bubba if you will. I even heard one of these guys swear an oath, publicly, that he would never hunt white tails in Michigan ever again! And he's a Michigan outdoor writer who represents Michigan outdoor men and women?! Is that right?
My point here is. . . Michigan outdoor men and women need to stick together! That's how we defeated the bear referendum a few years ago. But by not sticking together, we LOST our right to hunt doves! This is how they will bring us down in the end. "A house divided will not stand!”
By the way, our Governor is currently trying to stop wild boar hunting behind a fence in Michigan. Her reason? She gets campaign funds from the American Pork Producers because they don't make a dime on wild boar shot in this state. These outsiders are trying to determine how we hunt and what we hunt for and our Governor is backing them. More on this when I get back on the air with my radio program. Trust me folks. . . this is not good for hunting in general. First the dove, then hunting on a ranch/preserve. . . next, bow hunting? You mark my words . . .its coming. I am not saying Jennifer Granholm is anti-hunting. I'm saying she will do or say ANYTHING for money. Most folks would say that that makes her a practitioner of the world’s oldest profession. I would never say that. . .publicly. It would show a lack of respect and would just be wrong on so many levels. She is looking out for her own best interest instead of looking out for ours – the VOTERS. That's not right either.
Hunting on a game ranch is good for many reasons. One of which is, it's a great place to teach a new hunter how to hunt under more controlled circumstances. It does increase their chance at killing an animal but it by no means GUARANTEES a kill. Notice I didn't say HARVEST. You harvest corn, You kill animals. Sorry kids, that's how the circle of life works. More on the subject of harvest versus kill some other time. And by the way, hunting for trophies is not wrong either. Most of the trophy kills are taken by the older, more experienced hunters, those who are the teachers of the young, and that is a Fact!
In short . . .we are all outdoor men and women who enjoy a diverse outdoor lifestyle here in the great and sovereign state of Michigan. Weather you are a camper, bow hunter, shooter, bunny killer, bass or trout fisherman or what ever. . .WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER when it comes to the outdoor sports. If we do NOT stand together our outdoor rights. . . ALL of them. . .will go away and we'll be forced to eat boneless, skinless chicken breast.
If it's legal and is environmentally responsible support it. If you don't like it. . .don't do it and try to legislate against us, we don’t need ya.  You are either for us. . .or against us. So guys choose!
